The new music list is now available. It is not only the final list of 2017, but also the end of Cardoso450, a project that has been a constant companion since February 2016. Cardoso’s 6-part Requiem was one of the works that encouraged the project into existence; it is fitting that it should be one of the final works we perform. But what of the rest?
October’s music reflects the month’s traditional association with the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the solemnity of St Teresa of Avila on Sunday 15th October acts as a focal point. We’re looking forward to returning to Colin Mawby’s O doctor optima, a work written for the choir in 2015, which we’re pairing with his beautiful Ave verum.
Advent sees us juxtaposing the Offertories by Palestrina with more modern French music, with works by Fauré, Vierne, Widor and Poulenc; his evocative Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël are sure to be a highlight. Bach’s soulful Das alte Jahr vergangen ist brings our busy 2017 to a close, and, as we look towards 2018, we're trying to make sure our next project isn’t quite as mammoth as Cardoso450 has been!
